Job Description
Client has recently ported its enterprise analytical and data integration warehouse to Teradata. 
We are looking for a very well qualified Teradata Database Administrator to join our Data Management team to lead the DBA team and mentor data architects, BI, ETL and QA team members in Teradata best practices. 
Our new multiple 2650 environment is a modest 20 Tb but runs mission critical extracts for commercial reporting and government mandates, health informatics, plus data integration and services sourced from internal DB2 and Oracle and a growing number of external vendor partners. 
Another major initiative is resourcing or integrating claims, member and client data from another external partner. 
The Teradata Data Warehouse is also instrumental in future MDM and Marketing initiatives as the company prepares for health care reform. 
As a technical expert and leader, you can define and implement the critical database processes that a new Teradata customer needs to meet these business challenges.
Mentor DBAs, data architects and data warehouse developers on Teradata best practices. Direct production support of 7x24 Teradata database supporting active warehouse and data integration applications. Troubleshoot production problems and work with other team members to identify and address issues.
Script database monitoring (Viewpoint, PDCR, DBQL, BTEQ), BAR and automate routine tasks.
Perform data analysis to provide management with timely and accurate information and plan for capacity and performance management.
Perform data management tasks as required, loading, editing, restoring and archiving data. Research, test and coordinate database upgrades.
Tune SQL queries and database to maintain performance for analytic and data services. Test new Teradata features (temporal, columnar) and 3rd party tools.
Manage interaction with Teradata Support to resolve issues.

Required Qualifications     
List the specific skills, knowledge and abilities that are required
•Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field, and 3 years of work related experience in database administration, or 7 years of work related experience in lieu of a degree.
•Working knowledge of database design, file access methods, data standards, data control and security.
•Working knowledge of backup and recovery issues associated with database platforms.
•Working knowledge of IMS, Oracle, MSSQL, DB2, Teradata database systems and relational database systems in general.
•Ability to prepare clearly written technical documentation which includes procedures and technical matters.

Preferred Qualifications

•Kornshell scripting experience.  Experience with PERL scripting is a plus.
•Demonstrated ability to work independently.
•Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the organization and correctly identify the customer's needs.
•Expert knowledge of SQL.  PL/SQL or BTEQ is a plus.
•Knowledge of some operating system software including MVS/ESA, JES2, DFSMS, CICS, RACF, RMF, TSO/E, ISPF, Solaris, AIX, LINUX and Windows 2003.
•Knowledge of JCL and computer programming languages including COBOL.

Required Qualifications
Minimum 10 years experience in Information Technology
Minimum 5 years experience as a DBA
Minimum 5 years experience in Data Warehousing
Minimum 4 years as a Teradata DBA or 3 years plus certification
•Experience with IT infrastructure, hardware and architecture
•Very familiar with all aspects of managing a large 24x7 DBMS environment
•Experience with BAR, administration tools and load utilities
•Experience with query and database performance tuning
•Providing DBA support to internal and external customers
•Recognized as a leader in database administration and technology
•Able to work with and maintain trust of peers and managers within IT and business
•Mentoring DBA's, data architects and development teams on Teradata and database technology
•Balancing daily support with long term DBA development objectives
•Maintain team's focus in quickly changing environment
•Maintain a stable database platform while making process changes required for an agile development environment
•Excellent problem solving skills
•Strong verbal and written communication skills
•Able to prioritize, plan, monitor and status projects

Preferred Qualifications
•Healthcare experience
•Teradata Certifications
•Experience building well-performing user semantic view layers
•Work with off-shore contractors or outside vendors for DBA services and consulting
•Experience with data modeling, database design, data mart development
•Knowledge of BI environment and tools, especially SAS
•Teradata 13.10
•Team leadership
•Experience as a team lead or supervisor

Must have excellent communication, but for lead one MUST have experience communicating with upper level management and executives.
