Client is seeking an energetic and talented developer to deliver innovative customer facing solutions for several eCommerce initiatives. We are looking for a front-end Java Developer for the development and design of web components to introduce new capabilities and services for our online customers on a highly scalable eCommerce platform. Responsibilities/Skills/Experience
Design and Engineering Practices
• Design & Develop eCommerce solutions using Java 1.5 and above, JAVA J2EE technology, IBM's WebShpere Commerce, and other web technologies
• Drive innovation and new ideas throughout the delivery teams
• Analysis of business requirements and subsequent creation of high level technical design documents and technical specifications
• Design scalable features
• Create feature designs that fit into the overall system architecture
• Create designs that are adequately scalable or that appropriately enable scenarios
• Clearly communicate comments on code, specifications, or design so that others can adequately review work
• Consistently follow group standard practices
• Consistently create maintainable code that follows standard
• Communicate gaps in business and technical functionality and assess impact to timelines
• Work with other internal IT teams to complete project activities, such as Infrastructure, Architecture and Database teams.
• Maintain current technical knowledge to support rapidly changing technology, always on a look out for new technologies and work with management and development team in bringing new technologies.
Implementation
• Analysis and identification of technical areas of improvement within existing web applications.
• Create code that stabilizes quickly in builds
• Create stable features that do not require last-minute rewriting
• Proactively provide status updates
• Provide updates to others that are clear, concise, and complete
• Write unit tests for each function for a feature that effectively exercise the code; identify bugs or design issues
• Create code that does not break the build
• Proactively develop automation tools or techniques to test code
• Submit complete bug fixes
• Proficient in debugging techniques and tools
• Unit and system testing of application code, as well as execution of implementation activities.
Customer and Business
• Consistently prioritize customer/partner or support requests
• Address customer/partner feedback that requires significant work, rather than dismissing reported issues as not reproducible
Leadership and Influence
• Participate and provide input in feature reviews with other developers or teams
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Education/Training
Bachelor's degree – preferably in computer science – or equivalent experience
Experience
Working experience in developing applications using Java 1.5 and above, IBM's WebShpere Commerce versions 6 or 7. Experience with JAVA J2EE applications with emphasis on: JDBC, Servlets, JSPs, JSPFs, Java Beans, EJBs, HTML, Java Script, CSS, jQuery & HTTP protocol
1-2 years experience in the following:
• Experience including analysis, design, coding and implementation of large-scale Java object oriented applications.
• Knowledge on OO design including extensive design patterns & their applicability.
• Working Experience in DB2 or other relational databases.
• Unix/Linux: Knowledge of basic commands and shell scripting.
Role specific abilities/skills
• Awareness of activity in the open source world. Contributing back to open source is a big plus.
• Good written/verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.
• Strong analytical skills
• Adapt to changes that are necessary for the success of the architecture
