SunGard is NOT required – just solid AS/400 and RPG skills. Must have good coms skills and be quickly available for interview – strongly prefer local candidate.
Manager told me that he will hire someone if we can find them.
The IDEAL resource will have AS400 RPG skills and experience with SunGuard Public Sector. They are expanding their use of the SunGuard Applications and numerous homegrown applications are going away. This resource will be maintaining some of the older homegrown applications that are being replaced.
The resource needs to be knowledgeable/able to do development should things need to be changed. But comfortable with maintenance to be in an almost exclusively maintenance role.
This effort may end up moving into a Managed Services opportunity down the road with more resources added to accommodate for blips. They would like this resource to start as soon as possible. The individual currently in this role is retiring at the end of the first quarter (March).
The type of candidate looking for has probably been at smaller shops over the years and been a jack of all trades. Must be seasoned, not onlybecause it is older technology, but also because their systems are not well documented so they must be comfortable working independently and trouble shooting things on their own.
