Direct client position: Unix Administrator

Experience

Experience managing highly available, large scale, high volume deployments on one of the major cloud platforms : Openstack, EC2 or Rackspace (in order of importance)

Performed system administration tasks of major unix flavors (Linux, BSD, Solaris, …), including deployment, tuning, day to day administration,  and break fix.

Developed automation tools used in the management of thousands of compute, network or storage elements. 

Designed complex infrastructures composed of servers, network, and storage devices.

Deployed and used Configuration Management tools like Puppet, Chef, cfengine (in order of importance) in large scale environments.

Deployed and used monitoring infrastructure like Nagios, Ganglia, Zenoss, Opennms, .

 Skills

Fluent in either Python, Ruby,  Java (in order of importance). Familiar with development methodologies, and tools like git, github, Jira, …

Knowledge of algorithmic, object oriented programing and distributed system development.

Must have experience using NoSQL databases like MongoDB, Cassandra, Reddis, and traditional relational databases like Mysql/Oracle or Postgress.

Knowledge of basic OS architecture and components like kernel, memory management, networking ... For one of the major unix flavors (Linux, BSD, Solaris, …)

Knowledge of main virtualization technologies (KVM, Xen, Vmware, openVZ), including their configuration and management.

Knowledge of networking protocols, topologies and services (NTP, DNS, Load Balancers, DHCP,…)

Knowledge of storage protocols, and topologies.

Knowledge of Server hardware components and architectures. Capable of defining hardware specification taking into account CPU, Memory and network performance characteristics.
