Requirement of MySQL DBA at MA

Position : MySQL DBA

Location : Boston, MA

Duration : 8+ months

 

Descriptions:

Initial assessment of all of client's database infrastructure for configuration, capacity, and best practices. This includes Gamesville (MySQL & Postgres), Registration (MySQL), and WebPub (MySQL).

Updating client's database infrastructure to best practices, configuring monitoring and replication. Conducting a "fire drill" to verify that we have procedures to fail-over in the case of an emergency.

Task list:

·         Upgrade MySQL 5.0 instances to 5.1+ (currently supported by Centos/RedHat)

·         Propose improvements to MySQL replication to reduce downtime during failures and ensure accuracy of data.

·         Implement PostgreSQL replication (or similar)

·         Audit and test database backups, develop an ongoing process.

·         Build and test an emergency failover process.

·         Evaluate use of MyISAM and InnoDB usage and propose usage per property.

·         Check databases for corruption and develop a process to do so on an ongoing basis.

·         Verify that database schemas match between dev, QA, and live environments; split separate QA instances if none present
