Overview:

e-Dialog, a wholly owned subsidiary of GSI Commerce, is a leading marketing service provider utilizing e-mail, mobile, social networks, e-commerce and Point of Sale.  e-Dialog's technology and services give marketers direct access to timely customer insight that drives targeted and opportunity-rich consumer dialogs.  Clients include AirTran Airways, Avis Budget Group, Boots, British Airways, CVS/pharmacy, Dell, MLB, the NFL, Philips, Skype and The TJX Companies.

e-Dialog uses a variety of core technologies to deliver services to our clients.  These include windows and Linux based server platforms, Oracle databases, Perl, Java, Java Script and other web technologies.

Apache's ActiveMQ message platform is integral to e-Dialog's current and future technology stack.  Currently we use V5.4.x in a standalone or clustered configuration for several e-Dialog products.

 

NOTE: This position is a 2-3 week contract, to be followed by a 1 year mission critical support contract (to be performed by a second resource).   

 

Responsibilities:

Work Request:

We have experience with queuing technology, but need a broader and deeper knowledge of Active MQ.  Specifically e-Dialog is interested in the following services:

Technical Consulting:

e-Dialog wants to conduct a technical evaluation and gap analysis of our current Active MQ environment and answer the following questions:

  • Are we using Active MQ effectively for the current business problems?
  • Is it designed/configured correctly to be a highly available, high performing and reliable platform?  If not what is the appropriate design/configuration?
  • What are industry best practices to develop and operate an Active MQ environment?  What business/technology problems fit into Active MQ's sweet spot?
  • What are the benefits to upgrading to V5.5 (we're currently hitting an issue in V5.4)

Platform Training:

e-Dialog wants to expand our knowledge to build, maintain and support Active MQ based solutions:

  • General Active MQ training using on-line courses for Level 1, Level 2 and Engineering resources
  • Level 2 Support training – 3 – 5 resources that support the platform and the e-Dialog applications running on it.  They handle issues, maintain the platforms, roll out new platform and application releases, etc.  They need to know the components and parameters to monitor, maintain, recover and tune the environment.  These resources will interact with the vendor's product support function.
  • Engineering training – 3 – 5 resources that design, build and test e-Dialog applications that run on Active MQ.  They need to know if they're using Active MQ correctly and efficiently.

 

Qualifications:

Work Location:

Consulting would be conducted at e-Dialog office in Burlington, MA.

Training can be on-line, and/or conducted at either e-Dialog facilities or vendor facilities

 

Qualifications:

 

  • The successful candidate will need to be a Subject Matter Expert in Apache ActiveMQ, with experience in infrastructure evaluation, gap analysis, and establishment of Best Practices surrounding ApacheMQ.  
  •  Experience prooviding training for Level 1, Level 2 and Engineering resources is required.
