General job description for EDI Team staff:

Analyze, design and develop specifications for enhancements and extensions to EDI application interfaces and maps. Test, implement, maintain and enhance EDI transactions and the processing thereof. Provide technical expertise and support for EDI communications. Constantly monitor entire EDI environment and when appropriate, take proactive measures to improve performance, minimize risks, etc.

 

Hardware and software for which high-level skills are needed:

 

HP 3000:         MPE 7.5 operating system

                        Database: TurboImage and Query (including reporting)

                        Editors: EDITOR, Qedit, QUAD

                        Misc utilities, incl. POSIX: ftp, fcopy, sort, uniq, diff, tobyte, etc

                        3rd party utilities: Adager, VESoft (MPEX and Security/3000), NetBase,

                       VISTA, Omnidex

                        HP COBOL 85

                        Speedware 7.13

 

EDI                   Transportation/Financial transaction sets, both ANSI X12 and EDIFACT

                         (210, 301, 309, 310, 315, 317, 322, 324, 350, 404, 417, 418, 810, 996,

                         BAPLIE, others)

                        Implementation guides

 

Gentran 5.1     Gentran system and mailbox configurations

                        Process Control, session creation and management

                        Trading partner setup

                        EDI Mapping

                        MS SQL Server

                        Corvedia VAN

                        3rd party utilities: XXcopy, others

                        MS Outlook 2003

                        Interactions with EDI processing running on HP 3000

 

Windows           Windows Server 2003

                        MSDOS command line commands and utilities

Customer support       Both internal and external. Approximately 50 external trading

                                    partners. Work with internal and external customers to diagnose

                                    problems and affect remedies or repairs. Work with external

                                    customers on all aspects of exchanging EDI documents – initial

                                    set up, follow-up adjustments, monitoring, etc.

 

Future directions:

 

    Two to six months:

            Upgrade Gentran 5.1/Windows Server 2003/SQL Server 2005/Outlook 2003 to Gentran 5.2 or 5.3/Windows Server 2008/SQL Server 2008/Outlook 2010

 

    One to two years:

            Migrate/translate from HP3000/MPE to HP9000/HPUX

            Migrate/translate from HP COBOL to MicroFocus COBOL

            Migrate/translate from Speedware/MPE to Speedware/HPUX

            Migrate from TurboImage to Oracle
