Java Lead

3-6 months - Contract to hire position at in Dublin, OH (outside Columbus, OH)

 

The interview process - 1/2 hour Phone > 60 - 90 minute F2F (skype is last resort) - interviews are very technical.  They need candidates who they feel have a strong desire and ability to pick new things up.

The candidates need to be "hands on technical lead"          

 

Basic Functions:

? Evaluates complex client area requirements and processes (e.g., new, enhancements or maintenance) and prepares application system specifications.

? Develops, tests, and implements efficient, cost effective application solutions which may involve diverse development platforms, software, hardware, technologies and tools.

 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

? Designs, architects, and builds new subsystems or major enhancements to existing systems in line with Enterprise Architecture standards.

? Mentors others on new technologies, design techniques, etc.

? Ensures team adheres to standards including coding, testing, and methodology.

? Reviews physical and technical designs of systems, ensuring sound decisions are being made.

? Enforce the reduction in duplicate processes, code, etc.

? Primary owner of presenting and obtaining approval for project and system technical artifacts to IT management and Enterprise Architecture Group.

? Recommends technical training programs for team.

? Participates in on call rotation.

? Exercises an in-depth understanding of specific tools or technologies applicable to our business.

? Provide comprehensive consultation to business unit and IT management and staffs at the highest technical level on all phases of the project development cycle

? Research and evaluate alternative solutions and recommends the most efficient and cost effective solution for the systems design.

? Is highly accountable for the effectiveness, quality and timeliness of project design decisions and how easily these designs can be implemented.

 

Project Management

? Works with management to identify and specify complex business requirements.

? Assists in all levels of project management.; act as a point person for issues and questions on a project

? Communicates status to the project manager.

? Ability to work effectively with multiple business areas and understand the impact of systems on these areas.

? Assign roles to project resources according to skills, interest, and availability

? Manage project tasks and schedule resources on projects, as needed

? Perform/ensure quality assurance by reviewing testing results and performing code reviews

? Be responsible and accountable for meeting or exceeding the expectation of the project sponsor

 

Supervision Received: Receives general supervision from the Application Development Director or Manager, and technical direction from a Lead Technical Specialist or advanced Technical Specialist.

Supervision Exercised: Acts as technical lead (assist in all levels of supervision and may perform management functions) and often involved in providing assistance and training to less experienced Programmer Analysts and Senior Programmer Analysts.

 

Qualifications:

? Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

? A minimum of 6 years experience in IT with at least 2 years leading technical projects.

? Expertise with Object-Oriented analysis and design, and programming concepts

? Extensive experience with Java/J2EE development and expertise in design patterns

? Experience in developing large, scalable, high availability Java applications

? Detailed knowledge of WS* standards also required In-depth experience and understanding of Web Services (JAX-RPC & JAX-WS), Schema authoring and XML parsing.

? Experience with Spring, Java messaging

? Good to have : Experience with batch based applications

? Working knowledge of Continuous Integration Concepts

? Good to have: Experience with any ESB implementation is desirable but not required.

? Good to have: Experience with WebLogic Server (WLS)

? Good to have - Experience integrating with external partners.

? Experience with Oracle SQL, PL/SQL in a Unix (Solaris, Linux) environment.

? Strong communication and organizational skills.

? Strong team building skills and ability to gain cooperation and to motivate others

? Ability to identify issues and proactively determine ways to resolve them

? An eagerness and ability to learn new skills

? Proactive, results oriented and positive attitude.

? Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

? The ability and desire to take ownership of tasks and responsibilities

? The ability to manage multiple priorities across multiple business areas.

? Ability to communicate (verbal and written) with both technical and non-technical people at the appropriate level, in a clear concise manner.
