Position: Network Architect
Location: NYC, NY
Duration: 12+ Months
Rate: $80/hr C2C
Role will include performing a combination of simulation, theoretical analysis and laboratory experiments to provide subject matter expertise.
Knowledge of fiber-optic communications and components and experience in communications infrastructure (optical transport or metro access) design and/or optical component design is required. (including the physical properties of optical fiber)
Consultant must have full knowledge and experience in all layers of the networking stack.
Experience with VPI or similar optical communication simulation package is required.
Problem-solving skills ranging from fundamental optical physics modeling and hands-on laboratory work to analyzing communication system design tradeoffs.
Requirements:
- Experience working with high-speed digital communication networks
- Experience working with networking principles and local area networks
- Demonstrated expertise providing senior systems engineering leadership and expertise for complex systems integration
- Ability to bridge the gaps between customer requirements, operational needs, and true technical capabilities to ensure mission success.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills to resolve technological problems
- Demonstrated ability to document results and distribute information in a well-presented format
- Extensive knowledge of routing, including but not limited to: M/BGP, MPLS (traffic engineering, L2/L3 VPN), ISIS, OSPF/OSPFv3, RSVP, LDP, EIGRP, IGRP, RIP-1/2, MSDP, PIM-DM/SM
- Extensive knowledge of switching, including but not limited to: CGMP, IGMP, 802XX, Gigabit Ethernet, Fast Ethernet, Vlan/Trunking (8021q and ISL), Etherchannel, Wireless, Spanning Tree (STP), HSRP, VRRP
Experience:
- 10+ years work experience
- 4+ years Layer 2 & 3 IP network engineering work experience
- M.Sc. or Ph.D./Electrical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
- CCNA, or equivalent network certification associated with network design, operations or security preferred
