Duration: 6 Months contract.

 

Job Description for GLUX/Database Remediation PM Position:

This person needs to be ready to start in late July

This individual must be capable of completing the full cycle of formally planning, executing, measuring, and controlling a set of activities for a high visibility global project.  The work will last until at least December 2012, and there is a good probability this will be extended into a larger project.

 

There are two aspects to the position ("double-hatted"):

1. Managing the GLUX project; this includes facilitating, monitoring, and reporting on all aspects of work required to migrate from older versions of Unix, Linux, and AIX V5.3 or older to new versions of the OS.  Work also includes migration from older versions of Oracle and SQL Server to newer versions, and refresh of older hardware platforms (= 6 years old) as required

 

2. Managing the Database Remediation Project;  this project involves upgrading database software in circumstances where the operating system is currently compliant with Shell requirements, but the database software is either (1) beyond end-of-life; or (2) is not compliant with Shell SDBR II requirements. Depending on the volume of work, this may be split into two positions in preparation for 2013 activities.

 

Scope of Work

1. GLUX Project

a. Manage from an end-to-end perspective the entire migration process from current versions of GLUX to new versions on refreshed hardware platforms, upgraded DB software, and remediated Shell business applications;  covers all 4 Shell DS COBs

b. Scope covers approximately 90 servers with associated applications and databases

c. Coordinate with Shell IT personnel (SOM/DV/TACIT Team Leads and Application Specialists), to plan, monitor, and facilitate the migration of servers and applications to Production by end of 2012

d. Coordinate with the T-Systems, IBM, and other vendors on a weekly basis to plan, monitor, and report on the progress of the project

e. Roll-up and report on all activities and metrics for all 4 DS COBs on a weekly basis

f. Manage and track budget associated with the DS GLUX project

g. Plan and budget for the 2013 GLUX Project

 

2. DB Remediation Project

a. Validate the DS scope of database remediation work across all 4 COBs and all OS types

b. Based on the validated scope and pilots conducted to-date, develop a detailed implementation plan for remediating all non-compliant databases in all 4 DS COBs

c. Coordinate with Shell IT personnel (SOM/DV/TACIT Team Leads and Application Specialists), to plan, monitor, and facilitate the database remediation for SQL Server, Oracle, and other database software as required

d. Coordinate with IRM and the SDBR II team to ensure compliance with Group standards for database security, record retention, and other compliance requirements

e. Coordinate with Shell organizations which interface to T-Systems, IBM, Oracle, and Microsoft as needed

f. Roll-up and report on all activities and metrics for all 4 DS COBs on a weekly basis

g. Manage and track budget associated with the DS Database Remediation project

h. Plan and budget for the 2013 Database Remediation Project

 

Skills/Knowledge Required

1. At least 15 years project management experience in all phases

2. Previous Downstream IT experience.

3. Strong project planning skills, with emphasis on Scope Management and Risk Management

4. Very strong stakeholder management skills

5. Ability to see "big picture" (multi-system integration and connectivity) while having the ability to follow-up consistently and accurately on details

6. Diverse background in IT;  systems integration, application programming and testing, infrastructure

7. Ability to manage 3rd party outsourcers and vendor personnel

8. Strong ability to focus on the key problems and ask the right questions

9. Ability to operate in a highly ambiguous environment with changing scope

10. Strong Microsoft Office skills, with special emphasis on Excel and MS Project skills

11. Strong written, oral, and presentation skills

 

Desirable but not mandatory

• Previous experience in server and application migration activities as described above

• Working knowledge of Unix, AIX, or Linux and differences among server versions

• Working knowledge of database software, database administration, and/or database design and data architecture

• Knowledge of Shell PDF methodology

• Knowledge of Shell tools such as PRT

• Knowledge of Shell asset management databases such as EPIMS and Asset Manager

• PMP certification
