Network Engineer
Location: Chicago, IL
Duration: 6 months extendable contract
Rate: $50/hr on C2c
Network Engineer Roles/Responsibilities:
Network Engineers will be involved in designing, installing, configuring, managing, and supporting technical components within the network environment.
Technology components includes Firewall and VPN (PIX/ASA) (firewall and VPN), Routers (ISR G1/G2, 7200, ASR), Switches (6500, 3750, Nexus 5000, Nexus 7000), Load Balancer (F5), and IP/DNS (Infoblox).
Project activities may include, but are not limited to:
· Project Delivery
o Support the project manager in defining the work and the associated effort, duration, and resource needs to deliver the solution
o Communicate status to the project manager to provide completion status of assigned tasks, estimate to complete for remaining effort, and associated issues/risks
o Based on defined technical requirements and architecture blueprints work with a cross-functional team to develop the network detailed design and associated network specifications as part of an overall solution design
o Deploy and configure the networking components per the detailed design
o Document test cases, perform operational readiness testing to ensure the networking environment performs as required and document actual results
o Create proper knowledge transfer documentation and runbooks of environment (based on project requirements and design/build criteria) and conduct knowledge and ownership of environment to client Operations team
· Router/Switch Administration
o Configure routers (route configurations, ACLs, core system configurations)
o Configure switches (switch port configurations, VLAN configuration, ACLs, core system configurations)
o Analyze network environment (logs, packet traces, bandwidth) to understand communication patterns and identify source/destination/protocol/port information for application to application internetworking
o Analyze internetworking throughout the environment to identify routing paths and ACLs for applications that need to communicate with each other (particular focus on NGN to LGN)
o Configure network routing and access controls to enable application to application communication
o Utilize network diagnostic tools to perform network troubleshooting including traces of network communication
o Upgrade/patch software (develop process for upgrading/patching, develop scripts to automate/test, perform regression testing)
o Document environment/configuration of the environment (e.g. topology) and specific devices – Ensure inventory systems
· Load Balancer Administration
o Create New Pools and VIPS
o Add/Delete/Modify load balancing rules
o Modify load balancer configurations/setting
o Upgrade/patch software
o Document environment/configuration of the environment (e.g. topology) and specific devices
· Firewall Administration
o Create/Modify New Object Groups
o Add/Delete/Modify Appropriate rules and Access Lists
o Add/Delete/Modify firewall rules
o Modify firewall configurations/settings
o Troubleshooting of Rule implementation per project
o Upgrade/patch software
o Document environment/configuration of the environment (e.g. topology) and specific devices
· IP/DNS Administration
o Add/Modify/Delete IP and DNS assignments
