Title: SUNGARD BANNER DEVELOPER CONSULTANT 

Duration: 12 months + extendable

POSSIBILITY OF EXTENSION?  YES

Location: Columbia SC

 

REQUIRED SKILLS (RANK IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE):

Extensive experience with the following:

1.         Banner student systems versions 8.x (Banner General, Student, Financial Aid, Web and Self-Service);

2.         Oracle database technologies;

3.         WebTailor

4.         PL/SQL;

5.         Pro*C;

6.         Pro*COBOL;

7.         Oracle forms;

8.         Object Oriented Programming Language (Java);

9.         UNIX/LINUX operating systems. 

                            

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

This position requires a bachelor's or master’s degree in computer science, information systems, or related field and at least 5-9 years of experience with Oracle products and Sungard Higher Education Banner Systems.

Intermediate knowledge of:

1.                Open source frameworks such as Grails, Spring and ORM technologies such as Hibernate.  

2.                Excellent written and oral communication skills as well as experience working directly with customers, teams, and in a matrix-managed environment. 

3.                Strong design, programming, documentation, and mentoring skills.

 

DAILY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Calling upon SunGard Banner experience, this position will be working with our SunGard consultants and USC staff from the Enterprise Applications (EA) Department in University Technology Services to ensure that integrations between Banner and other third party systems are properly implemented.   The position will also work directly with EA staff to mentor them on Banner-specific topics, development skills related to Banner technologies such as Oracle Forms, WebTailor, JAVA, Pro*C, Pro*COBOL, and PL/SQL, and other topics as needed. 

 

SCOPE OF THE PROJECT:

University Technology Services is currently seeking a talented individual to fill the role of SunGard Banner Developer.  The Banner Developer will focus on ensuring the development of quality software using best practice architecture, release management, coding practice and development processes on a day-to-day basis.  Job functions include the programming of the SunGard administrative systems based on internal and external user information and database requirements; testing and debugging applications; providing technical support and user training in the Banner administrative system and related products and systems.  The person in this position will coordinate with analysts and functional users to determine functional requirements and provide customization, maintenance and updates as needed to the Banner software.  Calling upon SunGard Banner experience, this position will be working with our SunGard consultants and USC staff from the Enterprise Applications (EA) Department in University Technology Services to ensure that integrations between Banner and other third party systems are properly implemented.   The position will also work directly with EA staff to mentor them on Banner-specific topics, development skills related to Banner technologies such as Oracle Forms, WebTailor, JAVA, Pro*C, Pro*COBOL, and PL/SQL, and other topics as needed.  The Banner Developer will partner with cross-functional teams to support non-production Banner environments and will provide advanced technical support to functional areas.

 

INTERVIEW PROCESS (who will conduct i/v, phone or in-person, how many rounds of i/v’s)?

Interviews will be conducted by the Project Manager in conjunction with the Technical Lead.  Others may optionally be included.

Initial interviews will be by telephone with follow-up in-person interview if deemed necessary.
