Position Overview: 

 

The available position is for a Senior Network Engineer.  This position is located in the Kansas City area supporting a long-tenured Client's major enterprise customer.  Due to the requirements of the position, the candidate will be required to reside in the Kansas City area. 

 

Supporting this client's environment will be an exciting opportunity for any prospective candidate as it has been well-established with some of the finest and most up to date technologies currently available.  This opportunity will present the candidate with the ability to technically lead, design/architect solutions and interface with the customer and support vendors.  Assisting the candidate will be a supporting cast comprised of a Kansas City based management team; a senior level Kansas City based network engineering team as well as a global based network engineering organization. 

 

The lead network engineer will design, install, configure and support high-speed voice, video and data networks.  He/she provides day-to-day onsite support for network systems, hardware and the related infrastructure.  The candidate will monitor and adjust the performance of networks (LANs and WANs) and will be responsible to survey the environment to determine future capacity needs.  In the lead role, the Senior Engineer is the subject matter expert (SME) for everything revolving around the LAN/WAN network design, implementation and ongoing support of the infrastructure.

 

Primary Job Functions:

·         Responsible to Design/Architect LAN/WAN solutions for the customer

·         Responsible to lead/assist with all major LAN/WAN deployments

·         Provide technical certification and testing processes for all major LAN/WAN deployments

·         Technical interface with equipment vendors to obtain product quotes, determine product updates and conduct design reviews for LAN/WAN solutions

·         Propose and plan system enhancements

·         Assist with budget planning for major technical initiatives 

·         Assist with product order submissions

·         Primary customer LAN/WAN technical interface

·         Assist as necessary with resolving severity 1 LAN/WAN outages

·         Assist as necessary with day-to-day administrative support

·         Capture/Diagnose/Remediate irregular network traffic

·         Configuration backup and monitoring assurance of the LAN/WAN environment

·         Perform capacity management analysis and reporting

·         Lead/assist the Project Management Organization with the creation of project plans for major LAN/WAN initiatives

Secondary Job Functions:

·         On-call support on a 24x7 rotational basis

·         Assist with root cause analysis and develop technical corrective actions

·         Assist with security audits

·         Configuration and environment documentation

·         System performance tuning

·         Schedule and manage carrier circuit installations

·         Assist other engineering leads as required

Education / Experience:

·         7+ years networking experience required

·         BA/BS Degree desired

·         CCNA certification expected

·         CCNP/CCDP certification desired

·         CCIE certification and/or equivalent work experience or technical aptitude required

 

Position Requirements:

·         Candidate should be considered a LAN/WAN expert with respect to the configuration, implementation and support of the responsible LAN/WAN technologies

·         Firm working knowledge of Cisco technologies that include, but are not limited to, ACE, all major models of IOS based routers/switches, FWSMs, ASA & WAAS

  • Solid foundation of supporting WCCP, TACACS, VPN (site-to-site, client & clientless), network data capturing (sniffer) and analysis, 3750/6500/3900/3800/2800 model LAN/WAN QoS fundamentals (policy-maps, queue levels and etc.) and EIGRP routing
  • General working knowledge of Cisco ACS, Cisco wireless, proxy technologies, MPLS BGP/VRFs and IT security best practices
  • CheckPoint firewall, Linux scripting, Nexus, Tandberg/TelePresence, Cisco SRST, Cisco VoIP Unity Connection & Communications Manager experience a plus

·         Ability to work evenings and weekends as required

·         Ability to lift 50 lbs.

·         Little/no travel required

 

Interpersonal Skills:

·         Ability to provide information to support the construction of a detailed project plan

·         Ability to technically lead, instruct and communicate technical expectations to others

·         Self-starter with excellent time management skills

·         Responsible to meet directed deadlines and good attention to detail

·         Ability to effectively communicate (verbal/written) to customers, supporting teams, senior management and peers
