Position: Cisco Engineer

Location: Austin, TX

Duration: 12 months

 

Work to be Performed

•             Ability to implement and configure routed and switched data networks.

•             Lead internal resources for optimal data network design and adherence to State of Texas client policies.

•             Proactively plan and manage the implementation data services and data network for clients.

•             Provides direction, guidance, and assistance in network area(s) and establishes engineering goals and objectives that support DIR's key strategies.

•             Project Manage complex data technology design, data network design, and equipment proof of concept implementations.

•             Coordinate data upgrade, implementation and test plans.

•             Ensures compliance with regulatory data guidelines. Research studies, forecasts, and modeling exercises to glean relevant information for the basis of future voice changes.

•             Consults with client organizations to understand their business and technical needs. Represents the agency at business meetings, customer network meetings, conferences.

•             Performs as the customer's consultant for all of Clients data technology related to services.

•             Performs level three technical supports and escalation for telecommunications and data issues within the State of Texas.

•             Creating and maintaining productive relationships with supplies of telecommunications services to increase knowledge about new network services and equipment.

•             Performs configuration of routing protocols ie. OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP.

•             Performs configuration of switching protocols, ie. Spanning Tree.

•             Performs evaluation of vendor capabilities.

•             Provide technical support to peers and other State agencies.

•             Performs related work as assigned.

Position Qualification / Qualification Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

•             Knowledge and implementation of TCP/IP, static and dynamic routing protocols,MPLS, ATM, SONET, DWDM,Frame Relay, ISDN, and RPR, security products, router and switching products.

•             Knowledge in complex data technologies, networking technologies, and standards.

•             Knowledge and strong understanding of data routing services, configuration and implementation.

•             Skills in planning, organizing, tracking and coordinating multiple projects.

•             Skills in telecommunications principles, procedures, and terminology.

•             Ability to develop and interpret policies and procedures with management.

•             Ability to maintain a strategic and operational understanding of the existing infrastructure and its relationship to the business.

•             Ability to effectively manage priorities and demonstrate excellent organizational skills including follow through and customer service abilities.

•             Ability to communicate effectively with management in a high stress, dynamic work environment.

•             Ability to present recommendations in an effective manner and demonstrate subtlety and tact in resolving interpersonal issues.

•             Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various levels of staff, including management, co-workers, and outside contacts.

•             Ability to comply with all agency policy and applicable laws.

•             Ability to comply with all applicable health and safety rules, regulations, and standards.

Education

•             Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in engineering or a related field.

•             Experience and education may be substituted for one another. (High School diploma or equivalent certificate required).

Experience

•             Seven (7) years experience with routed data and switching design, configuration and implementation.

•             Five (5) years of full time experience in a data engineering capacity working with senior management.

•             One (1) years of supervisory or lead experience.

•             Industry certification related to routing, switching, security, operating systems, etc. are preferred.

Computer Skills

•             Experience in the use of a personal computer to complete tasks.

•             Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet software (preferably MS Word, MS Outlook, and Intermediate to Advanced in MS Excel).

•             Must be able to learn new programs quickly.

 

Option #1 - equates to approximately 1.75 days a week across 48 weeks = 672 Total Hours + T&E (60% remote / 40% onsite)

Option #2 - equates to approximately 2.5 days a week across 48 weeks = 960 Total Hours + T&E (60% remote / 40% onsite)
