Overview: - Administer production and non-production SQL Server (MSSQL) and Oracle databases and provide 24x7 production DBA support for all databases.
- Be familiar with all emerging technologies and provide engineering solutions surrounding the database platform (High Availability/Disaster Recovery/Storage).
- Work closely with the Storage/Backup team and configure databases to be aligned with the best practices around storage and backup technologies.
- Work closely with application support teams on a regular basis to facilitate several migration efforts.
- Must have hands on experience in DR implementations and database clustering (HA) technologies.
- Must possess excellent debugging skills in MSSQL and Oracle database technologies
Responsibilities: - Provide 24*7 on-call production DBA support for production systems spanning multiple time zones
- Design, Configure and manage database backups for production and development databases (as requirements mandate)
- Work closely with storage and backup engineers to configure databases and their backups to be in line with their best practices as well as meeting the company's RPO and RTO requirements
- Actively participate in the database consolidation efforts that would involve consolidating several databases to reside within fewer virtual and physical servers (clusters)
- Be part of the Disaster recovery team - participate in discussions, design, architect and implement DR solutions for databases
- Work with storage engineers and system engineers, and provide recommendations on performance optimization and architecture consolidation
- Monitor performance of the production databases and provide tuning recommendations
- Monitor growth of the databases and provide capacity growth estimates both in terms of storage and system resources
- Install/upgrade and migrate databases
- Constantly review the current database architecture and seek proactive ways to improve on the processes, system availability and performance
- Provide consulting type of service to application/development teams on various performance and architecture related challenges
- Produce technical documentations on processes, operations etc.
- Provide DBA support on non-production databases
Requirements: • Minimum of 6 years DBA experience handling MS SQL (SQL 2005 and SQL 2008) environments and 3 years of DBA experience supporting Oracle (10g and 11 g) • Minimum of 3 years as on-call production SQL and Oracle DBA • Must be proficient in Netapp storage technologies – Snapshots, Snapmirror, Snapvault, Snapdrive • Working experience in using a backup tool such as Commvault, Netbackup, Legato (Commvault desired) • Must have Disaster recovery implementation experience using both database tools (mirroring, log shipping) integrated with storage technologies (Snapmirror) • Expert knowledge in setting up and administering MSSQL clustering solution – Database High Availability solutions • Excellent performance tuning skills and debugging skills are essential • Working knowledge of Windows 2003, Windows 2008 operating systems and some basic LINUX/UNIX user level skills • Must possess excellent organizational, communication, writing and interpersonal skills |
