SR Storage Engineer/Lead Engineer

 

3-6 months

Locations: Foster City, CA, Highlands Ranch, CO and Ashburn VA ( DC locations) will require travel to various sites.

Start date : early April

 

Primary duties as the storage team's lead on the Data Center Optimization Project (DCO).

·         Process incoming Host DCOMM tickets thru Viper (Remedy) to determine storage connectivity.

·         Validate Host Connectivity to Storage, CX/DMX/HP AMS/VSP based on data center.

o       OCC  (N) – Highlands Ranch (Denver) North Production or Lab environment

o       OCC (S) – Highlands Ranch (Denver) South Production or Lab environment

o       OCE PODs 2-5 – Ashburn, VA,   Production or Development environment.

o       OCW – Foster City, CA equipment located in Highlands Ranch DCs.

o       OCS – Singapore.  All tickets have been funneled into OCS resource queues.

·         Hosts validated having no SAN/Storage connectivity, Viper tickets are noted and completed to continue on with DCOMM process.

·         Lab/Dev hosts validated with SAN/Storage connectivity,  Typical process:

o       Document all zoning /storage information in Viper ticket.

o       Remove zones from active zone set and monitor for approx 1 week.  (There had been some cases application owners needed the storage restored even with active DCOMM tickets in place.)

o       Remove Storage resources from respective arrays, documenting Viper tickets with all actions.

§         CX – Deregister HBAs, Destroy SG and LUNs.

§         DMX – Remove masking and mapping entries.

o       Delete previously removed zones, remove SAN port alias and disable SAN ports when possible.  Maintain reclaimed SAN ports to be processed by Eric Hansen.

o       Complete associated Viper tickets in order to continue DCOMM process.

·         Production hosts validated having SAN/Storage resources, process:

o       Create Viper CRQ (change request) documenting all affected resources minimum of 1 week prior to intended start date.  Typical DCOMM CRQs are acted on Tues-Thurs.  Client doesn't usually allow such work to be done on Mondays/Fridays.

o       Follow the CRQ to make sure it is approved, emailing respective approvers if needed prior to starting any work.

o       Remaining process similar to Lab/Dev environment except somewhat condensed depending on the application environment.  Depending on the environment CRQs are sometime rescheduled allowing for more time.

§         Remove zones Tuesday.

§         Monitor for a day.

§         Remove storage resources Thursday.

o       Document all actions in Viper ticket.

Miscellaneous Duties:

·         Viper :

o       NISOCx – cable requests

o       IPRs – IP requests

o       Power/Cooling

·         INCs – Incidents as needed.

·         Agreeable to handle on-call, moving forward.

Requirements:

·         6-10 years of Storage experience

·          Strong experience w qith EMC CX/DMX/VMAX

·         Experience with  Brocade SAN equipment

·         Ability to interact with internal (Storage) and external (UNIX/Windows/App) teams.

·         Excellent communication skills

Nice to Have:

·         Remedy (Viper) exposure

·         HDS AMS/VSP

·         ESX
