Position: Sr. UNIX / Linux System Administrator

 

Location: Fredericksburg, VA

 

Complete Description: **candidates local to the area are strongly preferred **personal interview required, no exceptions Experienced System Admin who has experience support enterprise servers running Unix/Linux and Microsoft operating systems. Skills Required: 1. Expert skills in analyzing and monitoring hardware and UNIX/Linux and MS Windows Server operating-system environments 2. Excellent communication and vendor-relations skills 3. Thorough understanding of the implications of supporting a mission-critical environment on a 24/7 basis. 4. Working knowledge of networking and programming issues sufficient to administer hardware, OS environments, and software environments for enterprise systems 5. Ability to make significant contributions to technical documentation sufficient for detailed audit scrutiny 6. Ability to follow technical and procedural standards 7. Knowledge in Solaris, Linux, MS Windows Server, Sungard Banner applications, and MS Sharepoint. 8. Knowledge in UNIX/Linux script writing for maintenance and monitoring purposes 9. Knowledge of Symantec Netbackup software supporting a combined UNIX/Linux and MS Windows platforms. 10. Experience with system administration in a higher education setting. 11. Knowledge in Apache web server, MySQL, PHP 12. Knowledge in Oracle RDBMS, iAS, and MS SQL Servers Experience Required: 1. General networking and programming expertise 2. Knowledge of MS Windows environments sufficient to serve as a backup OS administrator. 3. Knowledge of MS Windows environments to troubleshooting data issues between UNIX/Linux systems and MS Windows systems. 4. BS or MS in a technical field or equivalent experience 5. Minimum four years experience in analyzing and monitoring hardware and Unix and Linux operating-system environments Preferred: 1. Experience with systems using Sun Solaris, Linux, MS Windows Server, Sungard Banner applications, MS Sharepoint 2. Experience with system administration in a higher education setting 3. Experience with Oracle iAS, Apache web server, MySQL, PHP 4. Experience with MS SQL and MS Sharepoint environments 5. Symantec Netbackup
