UNIX System Administrator

The UNIX System Administrator will be responsible for the daily operations, support, and maintenance for a wide range of enterprise servers.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in systems administration involving installation, support, and maintenance
Experience working with the following products: Linux, Solaris, VERITAS Netbackup, Shell & Perl scripting
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Must be able to work on-call and after hours for maintenance when needed
Preferred Experience
Possess a general understanding of basic networking.
NFS/DNS/FTP troubleshooting and maintenance skills
SAN storage experience with a focus in EMC (Symmetrix and Clarion).
Experience with VERITAS Cluster
Experience working with SAN and NAS
Experience working with the following products: NetApp, VMware, and VERITAS Cluster

Responsibilities

Provide UNIX/Linux systems administration services to internal and external customers, including development team on both physical and virtual servers
Works with very little supervision with respect to scheduling and assignments of tasks with results and progress occasionally reviewed
Resolve issues working with cross-departmental teams; customer support, application developers, vendor IT contacts, network and database administrators
Responsibilities include systems and equipment technology assessment, system performance analysis, system integration planning, specification development, test and evaluation, and system concept formulation/design/analysis
Ensure user satisfaction by providing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and problem resolution services
Review moderately complex problem situations and participate in the identification of opportunities for improvement to processes, procedures or tools
Responsible for day-to-day maintenance of development, test and production environments including backup and log management, system monitoring, and user management.
Create and maintain platform/architecture documentation.
Be available for non-business hours support and afterhours work when necessary
