Location: Phoenix, AZ
Duration: 6 month contract but will go longer
Job Description:
Perform the analysis, design, programming, troubleshooting, modification and enhancement of software products, production programs or customer applications mainly in a multi-terabyte Oracle data warehouse environment.
Responsible for writing code and completing programming, testing and debugging of applications. Position requires a firm background in software engineering and programming including analysis, design, implementation and verification. This is a development / support DBA role involved in back-ups, patch releases, and archive logging and requiring strong troubleshooting skills as the primary contact with our support team off shore.
Customer software problems are not always code related. Our Application Developer / DBA must be highly knowledgeable, creative, insightful and analytical to get to the root cause.
Prepare / finalize forms, procedures and other documentation needed for the installation and maintenance of application programs.
Interface with business operations and other internal customers to add new or custom features to programs.
Provide technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using various development environments.
Attend code walk-through to ensure complete and accurate code has been delivered.
Work with offshore development resources, conduct code / peer reviews, and identify issues, discrepancies and performance optimization opportunities.
Test program code for accuracy, completeness and efficiency before installation of the programs into the production environment.
Contribute to the completion of specified programs and projects.
Provide technical advice to less experienced colleagues.
REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related technical discipline.
- 3 years experience working with very large enterprise terabytes Oracle 10g/11g databases essential.
- 3 years experience programming in Open Systems/Unix environment essential.
Programming experience in Oracle PL/SQL, Oracle SQL*Plus, UNIX/Linux Shell Scripts essential.
Experience enhancing and maintaining legacy code written in Perl/AWK, Korn shell script and even Cobol / VOS mainframe preferred.
Able to performance tune SQL queries essential.
Proficiency in troubleshooting, maintaining and debugging complex programs essential.
Ability to translate business requirements into programming specifications essential.
Experience with a Netezza environment preferred
Experience with terminal emulation tools (Hummingbird Exceed, PUTTY, etc.)
Experience programming in Linux environments
Possess a complete understanding and wide application of specialized or technical principle, theories, and concepts in the field.
Must be able to independently determine and develop approaches to solutions following established procedures.
