Unix Admin/Database Administrator (Oracle, SQL Server)

Position requires in person interview directly.

 

Location: New Castle, DE

Duration: 6+ months

Description;

Oracle DBA responsibilities include: creating, upgrading, patching, tuning and capacity planning related to Oracle databases running on HP-UX 11.11 and Solaris 10. Supporting 28 Oracle databases running on 7 Unix (4 Sun and 3 HP) hosts.  Support applications with databases including: PeopleSoft, Tier, Hansen, AssetWorks, EMC Documentum and ESRI/ArcSDE. EMC storage experience is very desirable.

 

SQL Server Administration is a secondary capacity; there are 39 SQL Server databases in use. 

 

Skills required include: database design, process engineering, database creation, import/export, SQL, PL-SQL, SQL*Loader, dbms_jobs, Network Services (host and client side) management, host systems settings and kernel tuning, security, access administration and status monitoring. 

 

Upcoming responsibilities include upgrading from Oracle version 9i Enterprise to 10g (Standard and Enterprise version) on the Sun hosts.

 

Unix functions of DBA (HP-UX, Solaris) – System Administrator for the HP-UX and Sun servers. Responsibilities include: general system monitoring, patching, security monitoring and management, CRON, access administration and file system management.  Experience with EMC PowerPath, EMC SAN and HP “ignite” strongly desired.  Strong scripting skills in various shells (bash, korn, C, etc.) required to support the processes in place. 

 

Unix/Oracle Backup and Recovery functions of DBA– Develop and maintain backup and recovery processes and plans.  Use of HP “ignite”, and familiarity with EMC RecoverPoint desired.  Oracle backup and recovery relies on familiarity with Oracle import/export as well as oracle recovery procedures.  Refresh one database from the data in another database to maintain test and training database integrity.

 

PeopleSoft functions of DBA – The hardware, operating system, services and database aspects of the administration of the PeopleSoft database is the responsibility of the Database Administrator.  Familiarity with UNIX, Windows Server, Weblogic, PeopleTools and related services and protocols is desirable to support the environment

 

Solution/Process Engineering of DBA - Develop and document processes including recovering servers and upgrading applications.  Understanding and maintaining things like: database links, materialized views and the Oracle dbms_jobs that refresh them are critical.
