Looking for Sr. Storage Architect - Eagan, MN - 6 Months (prefer C2H)

Skill wise I have highlighted in red some critical items. This is a lead type of role.

 

Role:                       Sr. Storage Architect

Location:               Eagan, MN

Length:                  6 Months (prefer C2H)

 

Description of Responsibilities

 

§  Augments the current storage management staff with storage operations experience.

§  Evaluates new storage technology and features across a broad base of vendor solutions and products.

  • Identifies storage related business and technology requirements.

§  Designs and develops new storage topology by leveraging new and existing storage technology including VMAX architectures to support distributed systems and mainframe environments.

§  Assists with the planning and design for storage consolidation projects to eliminate older arrays.

§  Produces unbiased technical storage recommendations through evaluations and selection efforts, and presents to senior management.

  • Leads the development and presentation of technology led business cases to senior IT & business executives.
  • Plans, manages and participates in the assessment (current state), detailed design (future state) and deployment of storage related processes for data management including those for primary storage and backup and recovery.
  • Configures, assigns, and allocates storage to multiple OS environments.
  • Analyze SAN storage performance and support tuning to optimize configuration.
  • Configures and implements scalable storage, backup and recovery, and data management solutions for business systems.
  • Assesses, designs and deploys storage technology to support advanced computing initiatives e.g. server virtualization, storage virtualization, etc.
  • Designs and deploys Information Lifecycle Management solutions.
  • Supports data center, application, and data migrations and consolidations.
  • Supports the deployment of datacenter, server, and network operational monitoring, management, etc. components.
  • Supports application and database rationalization design and implementation.
  • Supports the asset management process.
  • Enables knowledge sharing of data center technologies.
  • Leads teams of consultants.

 

Experience

 

  • Eight (8) to ten (10) years of storage administration experience with at least 10+ years of overall IT experience. 
  • Demonstrated hands on storage expertise.
  • Track record of developing business relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Five (5) or more years experience working with storage archiving and storage virtualization.

§  Ability to assess current state storage architectures.

§  Experience in high availability and business continuity environments.

§  Team player that has the tendency to step up to challenges instead of backing away from them (Non-adversarial).                     

 

Distributed Systems Qualifications

 

  • Strong operating system background primarily in UNIX, Windows, Linux.
  • Understanding of SAN security (LUN masking and storage provisioning).
  • Experience with SYMCLI utility as well as the tools to migrate data between arrays.             
  • In-depth knowledge of storage performance utilizing Performance Manager/IOPS/Qdepth and other third party software.     
  • Experience with VMAX FAST VP and experience with thin provisioning on CX
  • Experience with Optimizing the NetApp storage environment
  • Experience with SAN capacity management specifically APTARE would be a big plus
  • Experience with storage de-duplication, thin provisioning, and NAS is a plus.
  • Tivoli Storage Manager.
  • Hands on experience in managing SAN (EMC) environments (including SAN switches/zoning) in CISCO environments.
  • ITIL concepts including configuration, problem, change, asset and capacity management.
  • Windows platform Administration experience required (MCSE certification preferred)
  • AIX Platform Administration experience required (AIX Certified Administrator preferred)
  • Database experience with one of the following DB's preferred (Oracle, DB2/UDB or SQL).
  • Scripting experience with Windows, AIX, and mainframe.
  • Capacity planning for Open Systems and mainframe environments.
  • Knowledge and practical use of Navisphere toolset.
  • Experience with SRDF and TimeFinder recovery.

 

Mainframe Specific Qualifications (considered a plus)

 

  • Minimum of 5 to 10 years of IBM mainframe DASD and tape storage experience in a z/OS, z/vM, and z/Linux environment.
  • Demonstrated mainframe storage efficiency analysis and space recovery execution
  • Mainframe input/output (I/O) performance and tuning
  • Mainframe storage utilization reporting
  • Demonstrated mainframe storage efficiency analysis and space recovery execution.

Educational Requirements

BS Business, CS, EE, or related, ideal. Will consider non-degreed candidates with close- or exact-fitting experience as noted above.
