Primary Purpose:

The role of the Network Team Lead is to be responsible for the daily operational support of all supported Network Infrastructure within business units that are currently supported by Local Service Support in the Americas region.  The supported network infrastructure is, but not limited to, any equipment that provides routing, switching, wireless, and Voice over IP services.  This includes the monitoring and alerting, management, maintenance and continuous improvement of any devices, circuits, or other technologies that provide the network services to Rio Tinto.

 

Accountabilities -% of Time

Safety is the top priority.  The incumbent is responsible for making sure that the team, as well as himself/herself, is aware of and equipped to work safely.  This includes being involved and participative in safety discussions, making sure that proper PPE is supplied and maintained, and that training is acquired or given where necessary.

•30% - This position will be ultimately responsible for the services provided by the team, ensuring that any Service Level Agreements are met or exceeded.  The incumbent will need to ensure that the team is properly managing incidents, problems, and changes.

•20% - The incumbent will provide the necessary leadership to ensure that the team practices within the standards set by Rio Tinto, Rio Tinto IS&T, and the Business Units supported by the team.

•20% - The person in this position will provide leadership and support in regards to the installation and maintenance of all networking equipment within supported sites. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring that all work is completed to Rio Tinto standards and guidelines. This includes, but is not limited to, the installation of routers, switches, wireless, and any necessary cabling, power, and environmental requirements to complete the installation.  This will require that the incumbent and the team work with vendors and contractors to assist in the completion of such work. 

•10% - The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a budget and ensure that any costs to the Service Lines that are managed by the team are controlled and properly forecasted.

•20% - The Team Lead will be responsible for providing leadership with the timely delivery of any items relating to a project.  This will include any consulting, procurement, or installation of any technology that the team will ultimately support.

 

Problem Solving:

This role will encounter many obstacles within the job that will require resolution.  The incumbent will encounter many tight deadlines with projects and service requests, which would require constant communication between the team and the project managers, negotiating new deadlines if they cannot be met. 

 

Service outages that affect production need immediate attention, requiring possible site visitation by a team member to resolve.  The lead will be required to ensure a prompt resolution and that communication regarding the outage is properly disseminated. 

 

When high numbers of incidents are being recorded, the Team Lead will be responsible for ensuring that work is being done to continually improve the services supported by the team in order to reduce the number of incidents.
