Role: Telecom VoIP/Voice Engineer

Location: ChicAGO, IL

START: 1-2 WEEKS

DURATION: 6 MONTHS (C2H)

 

Description:

Telecom voip/voice engineer with primary responsibility to install, configure, validate, troubleshoot and support client based voip switches, routers, call manager and pbx networks co-located at client labs. Primary focus/competencies in cisco product line.

Position Background/Context:

one of the largest U.S. telecommunications service providers to provide critical end-user oriented testing services, including the management for and personnel to perform test preparation, test management and test execution functions in support of the Sales, Contracting, Ordering, Provisioning, Service Assurance and Billing functional areas in support of multiple product-related initiatives. Testing phases include the Operational Readiness Test (ORT) activities within the service provider's product development lifecycle. Software developed from multiple suppliers & vendors is essentially integrated and tested for the first time in an end-to-end environment in these complex testing environments, which bring together production end-users, the sales, ordering, provisioning, service activation and billing operations support systems (OSSs) and the live network infrastructure. Multiple releases of software are validated through this testing lifecycle annually. This independent certification process is essentially the last filter before the underlying processes, systems & network capabilities are directly exposed to the firm's live customers. In this engagement, CGI is chartered with certifying the production-readiness of the underlying systems and business processes for the service provider's Business VoIP and other product portfolios (e.g., AVPN, GVPN, Global Network Access, et al).

Required: 

·         Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) & Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certifications at a minimum, and on path to obtain Cisco Certified Voice Professional (CCVP) certification in less than six months or so. Candidate will already possess strong voice and data credentials and will not expect this to be part of "on the job" training. The only on-the-job ramp-up expected will be related to understanding of the service provider's environment, not learning the necessary technical skills. Minimum 6-8 years of large enterprise-grade VoIP network configuration experienceHe said  he had

-  Proficiency and solid experience with the setup and configuration of Cisco routers and switches.

-  Solid Working knowledge / hands on experience with the installation, setup and configuration of Cisco IP phones, Cisco Unified Call Manager, Cisco IP PBX and/or Avaya IP PBX systems.

-  Selected candidate will serve as the primary CGI Production Test Technical Contact and will interface with the client's VoIP Production Lab Manager counterparts.

 

Primary Responsibilities:

• Manage local installation of data circuits, T1,T3, Frame, Ethernet, from LEC or PTT

• Responsible for assisting with installation, setup and configuration of Cisco routers, switches, IP phones, Cisco Unified Call Manager, Cisco IP PBX and/or Avaya IP PBX systems

• Manage and complete the extension of voice/ data circuits from facility Demarc to customer (Labs) sites

• Maintain Site Inventory by tracking receipt, installation and uninstall of client-provided hardware to support projects /testing.

• Mount/rack ordered equipment and coordination with client's VoIP Production Lab Manager, enabling connectivity to assigned network.

• Manage local router configuration and software upgrades (as required).

• Work with Program Test Manager and teams to provide on-site support for the Test and Turn Up of Data and VoIP equipment according to project plans.

• Perform Call Processing/Volume testing by completing outbound/inbound calling scripts.

• Conduct Break/fix testing with Service Assurance (as required)

• Coordinate support before or after hours when necessary for trouble shooting and turn up involving international sites

• Provide systematic input/ "Lessons Learned" to Labs & other SMEs to validate, correct and improve critical customer-facing docs and to improve overall customer experience

• Provide customer experience perspective/ feedback following test completions

• Identifying and procuring necessary CPE to support testing.

• Track inventory of testing related equipment and circuits/CPE.

• Develop network diagrams of environment (include VPN, IP addresses, networks, PE, CE, SBC, PBX, phones and other necessary information)

• Maintain schedule of activities to ensure no overlap with other product/customer activities that are occurring in lab location.
