Immediate Need: Websphere Commerce Developer

Job Title: eCommerce Websphere Developer (mid-level Developer)

Location: North Chicago, IL

Position: full time, permanent or long term contract

 

Job Purpose:  

Design and development of eCommerce technologies in support of global websites.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

·   Day-to-day design, development, unit testing, and maintenance of eCommerce related components across global websites

·   Application development including coding, code reviews, bug investigation/fixing of work in progress

·   Sheppard development from design through production release

·   Code testing following Test Drive Development practices including maintenance/creation of unit tests and collaborating with functional and non-functional test team members to ensure quality output

·   Elaboration of functional requirements provided by the business including

Working with a cross-functional team of Product Owners, Business Analysts, Project Managers, Testing, etc.

Design and creation of Proofs of Concept

Collaborating with Technical Specialists during creation of detailed designs

Ensuring non-functional requirements are met

·   Ensure knowledge transfer between members of the development team, the production support team or other business/global representatives as appropriate

·   Assist in driving on-going code and process improvements by

acting as a code steward for key area(s) of the code base

researching and advocating use of new tools, templates, libraries, etc.

highlighting areas for improvement of the existing code base by contributing to maintenance backlog

·   Interact with the production support team to address problems and concerns in the application

·   Demonstrate leadership by acting as Scrum Dev Lead, mentoring junior developers and contributing to overall quality improvement activities

·   Work closely with User Experience team, Global Development Manager and Global Delivery Manager to deliver innovative solutions that will continue to positively differentiate our global eCommerce offering.

·   Ensure clear and consistent communication at all times.

 

Key Challenges:

·   Working with multi–language, multi–currency web platform that is integrated with wide range of business systems

·   Working with global IT team and globally dispersed business functions

·   To innovate and lead the development of web solutions to fit any technology/business requirements

·   Monitor and improve quality of web components

·   Pressure to deliver on-time and on budget in a fluid environment

·   Anticipate future eCommerce needs of our business

 

Skills, Know How, and Experience:

·                     The job requires at least 5 years experience working in IT, with at least 3 of those years spent on J2EE, HTML, XML, JavaScript, SQL, Messaging, and design patterns.

·         Working knowledge of JUnit, JMeter, HTTP test, and selenium

·         Working knowledge of eCommerce platforms such Websphere Commerce

·         Working knowledge of Application Servers such as Websphere and Weblogic

·         Working knowledge of Web Servers such as Apache

·         Working knowledge of databases such as Oracle, MySQL, DB2, and SQL Server

·         Working knowledge of AJAX libraries is preferred

·         Experience running regression tests, stress testing, and methodologies and best practices

·         Experience in dealing with nuances of multiple browsers and their versions (IE, FireFox, Netscape, Chrome, etc)

·         Strong analytical and conceptual skills with the ability to work hands-on in a fast paced environment

·         Strong experience of online industry standards and terminology

·         Willing to learn new processes and apply to daily work

·         Strong written and verbal communication skills including ability to work with Global Architects

·         Demonstrable ability of self learning and self motivation

·         Experience working in global teams

·         Experience with Agile process (SCRUM is preferred)

·         Working knowledge of at least one version control system; Subversion is preferred

·         Experience in estimating various programming tasks(small,medium,large)

·         Experience in Usability testing, Unicode/Character Sets and Regular expressions

 

Position Dimensions:

  • Reports to Global eCommerce Development Manager.

May require occasional international travel
